I was born within a family of powerful women. Fourteen, all of them with fierceness and independence. Few men but notwithstanding with courage and patience, it is not at ease to face the whole of us, they distinguished themselves with fantasy and extreme wit.
I spent my childhood among fields of Udine, running through rivers and hay, together with my twin sister, coming home just for sunset, called by the clank of the bell that our aunt use to ring to call our attention.
My childhood has been marked with yelling and crying against my mother that enjoyed forcing both me and my sister to dress identically. My desire to evade from the undisputed rules of good taste of appropriate clothing had its very own roots within those tearful moments.
The woman that I probably respected and adored the most has been my grandmother, dearly missed recently, who taught me love for life, the colours and Odyssey’s fairytales.
She raised me telling stories about stray cats and running in the rain. She loved classical music and paper games. A stain on the wall became a painting from her hands, and semolina was the best served dish. She loved teasing people in front of her, with her incredible cleverness. Teacher of art history, she managed to lead me into the artistic world, like nobody else ever could have.
After a naïve childhood as only few can dare, I moved to the big city of Milan for high school. I had to fit in the attitudes and conversations of those kids from Milan that showed such difficulty in accepting my accent and candour.
I found the possibility, the independence and the willingness of transgression in that very high school path.
The change became my vocation, once used to the monotony of the big city, I started dreaming bigger and better, escaping to different cities, London as first and foremost.
My passion for the fashion system had always been linked not much to the final product, being the garment, whereas instead to the idea, the inspiration that lies behind it. I always enjoyed reading beneath the soul of a person through the shape of the garment she had drawn.
