FREAK FACTORY

Grey Sheep

Graduation year

2001

Although label "Freak Factory" has only been founded in 2010, it has been in the making for over a decade. In 2001 designer Jeva Bartusevicuite graduated in textile design from Zurich University of Fine Arts with a bang: an exhibition at the Museum of Design followed, as well as the commission to create a commercial version of her graduation work.

Her first label "Laundryclub" was thus born, influenced by none other than Betsey Johnson, the enigmatic co-founder of Warhol's Silver Factory, with whom Jeva had the fortune to collaborate in 2000.

It is a decade and countless collaborations with various artists later, that "Laundryclub" changed direction: Becoming more reproducible, whilst maintaining being a platform for collaborations and also keeping the quirky, high-quality cuts, prints and materials. "Laundryclub" needed a new name: "Freak Factory" – le freak, c'est chic!
