The latest Freak Factory collection "Blonde Berta" mixes gothic aesthetics with elaborate details reminiscent of knight or Samurai costumes. The intriguing name refers to Ludwig Tieck's early romantic fairy tale "Blond Eckbert" (1797). "It all started with a black and white illustration "the lurking flowers", which symbolizes destiny or a rabbit's burrow", explains creative director Jeva Bartuseviciute. This was followed by the image of a new heroine, who - unlike in Tieck's tale - resigns herself to her fate. The collection is dedicated to this tough woman, named Berta, who rose from the ashes of the grim and unhappy fairy tale. As her most outstanding attribute was and is her female nature, the name of the collection is suggestive of her femininity.

The colours for the upcoming fall-winter collection have been chosen by the head designer on the dark and mysterious side; forming the foundation for highlighting the various shades of red.

A lot of black on various textures, mineral tones of greenish and bluish grey, moss-green and camel fade organically to gold and skin tones that appear in bright orange and pink in a few pieces of the collection. Thick, somewhat fleecy qualities with hairy textures of bamboo, mohair and wool are in tension with the light, semi-transparent fabrics made of silk, cotton and viscose. Thick and thin jersey is used with much love and mastery. Using a sophisticated burnt-out print technique transparent areas are created. Besides jersey, Freak Factory designer like to use silky, light micro-fibre for their pants, skirts and jackets. Screen-prints and a laborious folding technique, known from traditional Asian craftsmanship, decorate the pieces of the collection and constitute highlights in an impressive selection of accessories and details. Worth mentioning are also a few heavy hand-knitted tops with embedded metal rings reminiscent of a knight's armour.

The fashion house remains true to elaborate details and magnificent prints and illustrations. The colours are chosen for the minimalistic mood of the new collection. The edgy elegance and sexiness is newly interpreted through selected details of the male warriors armour, thus locating a woman in the center of attention. This woman is determined to make her own way and conquer the world.
