EMMA COPPLE

Emma Copple's graduate collection was initially inspired by the film Desperately Seeking Susan. Emma then progressed to focus on the 80s New York, including looking at the photographer Amy Arbus who captured unusual punk individuals on the streets of New York. Emma then started to look into the life of Patti Smith and Robert Maplethorpe, which channeled a laidback grunge feel. This research made Emma interested in working with oversized silhouettes.
Emma's collection is autumn/winter collection as the colour palette suggests, by using base colours of black and white mixed with elements of pink, blue and green.
The shapes consist of oversized 'boyfriend' silhouettes that include elements of tasseling, crochet, chunky hand-knit and graphic intarsia. Throughout Emma's research she has created abstract collages to translate into knitwear, and to aid with intarsia pattern designs and shapes, she has merged all initial ideas by taking an element from each to create the overall mood of the collection.
