TRAWLERMEN explores the contemporary fisherman. Inspiration was sourced from fine artists and fishing locations, and was translated into the six-piece collection. Rob Adamson was a key influencer, as the tones and techniques used in his fine art create a mood that was effectively echoed throughout the knitwear. Amie Antoniak additionally inspired the colour palette of the collection with her abstract paintings. The colour palette included rich tones of rubis, petrol, ocean and ochre, reflecting the inspiration and enabling the knit techniques to stand out. The use of premium wool, silk and mohair created tactile textures and also crafted a cohesive range of outfits.
Further inspiration was drawn from fishing docks and real life locations in Scotland, with my own photos of crabs, boats, rope and netting coming through in my designs. Photographs and drawings were digitally edited and knit to develop the oversized jackets, which are key pieces within the collection.
The collection was designed with a laidback and casual consumer in mind, encouraging a relaxed and comfortable style. Oversized silhouettes and raw denim contrast with fine knits and digital prints to create a vibrant and edgy vibe. Specialist knit techniques were used to create unique design features, particularly through the development of repeated pockets and smocking. The oversized duffle bag and holdall reinforces the rugged and slouchy sense of TRAWLERMEN and provide the ideal accessories.
TRAWLERMEN has so far been shown at both the Winchester and London fashion shows and has since been featured on Vogue.com and Pause Magazine, demonstrating both its editorial potential and commercial appeal.
