This collection Nostalgia is inspired by the designer Sinmei’s journey of self-identity.
We are born without our own consent.
The parent-child emotional bond is weak in the designer's family, as is the relationship with her three older brothers. “We are the wrong combination to be a family,” her father had once said. Her mother pondered on aborting the third son when they found out the baby’s gender. They kept the baby boy, and six years apart, their long- awaited baby girl, Sinmei finally joined the family.
The designer used to see her existence as a sin. When Sinmei was around eight years old, the third brother once attempted to suffocate her with a pillow as a result of her disobedience. She did not resist and showed no emotions which shocked him. This reaction indicates her instinct is to fully accept whatever comes to her life, both good and bad. The designer communicates this neutral yet indifferent feeling by polishing the entire collection a bluish grey.
