“The rebellion and education collide with each other to break or continue with the pre-established rules and barriers that we ourselves have forged, leading us towards an inhospitable course, seemingly without exit, inside our mind”.
This collection is a personal story, told from a different context, where fantasy and reality combine, to show the process we go through when we seek a freedom outside of bondage, prejudices, and rules that limit our being, immersing ourselves in a deep sea full of sensations and uncertainties that eat us up inside.
Regarding the silhouettes of the garments, reflected this idea of armor that the human being has built to protect himself from the world. In the process of liberation, this is broken, creating open garments that “strip the body and the soul”, formed by divided pieces that are held between them by means of delicate unions, acting as symbolic scars, that allow them to continue functioning.
These openings in each piece allow to show the parts of the male body to reflect, on the one hand, vulnerability, and on the other, to show a sensual and even sexual part of the men ́s body.
The colors used in this collection reflect upon attractive tones that the blood acquires under the skin when it has been mistreated, going through bloody reds, purple and olive- green colors that remain in the flesh of the being whilst humans for weeks after having suffered some trauma it may appear based on the person. This color card allows me to capture a physical wound, which reflects the ‘inner pain’ that any human can go through and which I have passed through at certain moments of my life.
The metals that make up part and appear in some pieces of the collection, symbolize ‘the pureness of blood’. I like the relation of metal and blood: it smells like rust, it tastes like iron. The silver metal also allows me to represent this shell that we forged ourselves so as not to suffer at the moment of transition and opening to the world: hence the fragments and unions. The reflective effect helps us to find ourselves in it, under the distorted effect that the pieces have.
As for the floral patterns that appear on the metal, they express the ‘blossoming of a personality, the arrival of the maturity of a man, opening to the world, (tremendous catharsis allows me to homogenize and undo contrasts).
For the staging of the garments, a strong representation of male sweat, which has a large list of connotations. I like how it allows me to represent the physical energy of man, and as in turn, this liquid exuded by the constant struggle, this ‘personal and non-transferable perfume’ accentuates a sexual beauty by adhering tissues to the body.
