The CONVERGENCE brand was created in 2018 by Lucy Taylor as part of the BA(Hons) Fashion degree completed in 2019.

CONVERGENCE design language uses meaningful concepts which explore human behaviors and functions to improve well-being. It grew from the initial concept idea of communication and unity and evolved to create a collection of modular garments which address design for disability.

As evidenced in the portfolio, designer Lucy Taylor already showed a concern for people in her second-year project which aimed to raise awareness for Autism Spectrum Disorder which was inspired by a close family member.

Upon graduating in July 2019, Lucy will further explore these themes of modular design, design for disability using her design aesthetic and passion for draping, whilst maintaining the CONVERGENCE design language to create meaningful work.

CONVERGENCE

The debut Convergence collection is based around the themes of inclusivity, communication, and travel.

The my initial inspiration from the Tower of Babel biblical story about the strength of people working together as one.

The story attempts to explain why people speak different languages, stating that a united humanity who all spoke one language worked together to build a tower high enough to reach the heavens. God became threatened by their collective strength and worried that they would try to overpower him. Therefore, he destroyed the tower, scattering the people across the earth and confused their languages so that they would not be able to understand each other.

Rather than focussing on the negatives, I took the message of unity and strength from this story. I considered how much more advanced we could be without language barriers and if everyone could understand one another and work together. the use of modular design references the destruction of the tower and the strength of the people when they come together as one

Every garment in the collection can adapt to different customers, situations and their needs - either through the use of modular components or simply the option to be worn in different styles.
