The curiosity regarding what is underneath the tough exterior of masculinity constructed in extreme conditions is the drive behind this work, as well as the urge to understand the transition from boy to man and the importance this part of life carries in the creation of masculine roles. Through exploring the two societies, the extinct Selknam tribe and the street gang Mara Salvatrucha, two very different worlds, yet still with common traits, the goal is to unmask masculinity and understand how a masculine role is created in these environments.
