This work is not about telling someone else’s story, but rather, learning about a way of life that was completely unknown to me. What drew me to the Haenyeo besides their interesting style was how they seemingly become entwined with their work, and it becomes who they are.

The female deep divers inhabit a capacity to read nature and work in synchronicity with the moon and the tide, which is a necessity, in order to know when it is the right time to dive. They use minimal equipment, which limits their catch and regulates how much is taken from the sea.
