The parent-child emotional bond is weak in the designer's family, as is the relationship with her three older brothers. “We are the wrong combination to be a family,” her father had once said. Her mother pondered on aborting the third son when they found out the baby’s gender. They kept the baby boy, and six years apart, their long- awaited baby girl, Sinmei finally joined the family.
