usa,usa

the capsule is a tongue-in-cheek criticism of the rising tide of nationalism in america. the capsule mixes quilting and patchworking techniques - an artform used historically to voice protest - along with classic americana textiles.

while nationalism is on the rise globally, this domestic wave of nationalism is both performative and dangerous. not only is it misguided, but it misinterprets who and what is defined as “patriotic.” wearing an extra eagle on your shirt doesn’t make you any more patriotic than your neighbor. repeating “usa, usa” at a rally doesn’t make you a patriot.
