TRANS/(F)IGURE

Trans/(f)igure, a clothing collection by Robert Andrew Hiyas, employs the lens of fashion to interrogate the synthesis (or dialogue) of gender and clothing in religious institutions, specifically that of the Judeo-Christian tradition. The collection is heavily inspired by fashions of the Roman Catholic Church. The opulent, symbolic and metaphorical traditions of Catholicism, as well as its performative, transfigurative, and distinguishing functions in hierarchy and gender distinctions lent inspiration in the making of this sartorial capsule.
