I called my collection the darker side of black, which is an Arthur Jafa reference. My inspiration however came from Grenadian Jab Jab. To me these two speak to going beyond blackness. With Jafa The Darker Side of Black is a kind of otherness and with Jab Jab it is a carnival tradition looking at the past and the future, it is the same with my collection. I wanted something that was rooted but also looking to a newness. Something that could reflect who I was and who I am becoming.
