BALL GAME

BALL GAME

The legend of the Hero Twins is recorded in a Quiché document called Popol Vuh. It constitutes the oldest Maya creation myth to have been preserved in its entirety. As the story goes, the father and uncle of the Hero Twins, Hun Nunahpu and Vucub Hunahpu, were ball players. The noise of their ball pounding on the ground angered the lords of underworld. Nunahpu and Vucub Hunahpu were summoned down to Xibalba, the land of the demons, where they were tricked and finally sacrificed by the Death Gods and their helpers.
