Iridescence

Iridescence

The artefact highlights the conflict of one’s animalistic characteristics with human reason. This inspiration comes from the sculpture ‘Theseus defeats the Centaur” by Antonio Canova, as well as philosophy and elements of Islamic architecture of the Ottoman and Mughal empires. This paradox is present in the tessellation of tiles used in Islamic architecture, through the basic grid symbolising the primitive nature of how objects are formed, contrasting with the final tiles that represent the refined product.
