THE CLOTH

Celebrating Caribbean Heritage, Crafting Decolonial Narratives

Since its inception by Creative Director Robert Young in 1986s Trinidad and Tobago, The Cloth has blossomed as a fashion brand and a beacon of Caribbean representation within the global design narrative. With a legacy spanning almost 40 years, Young’s anti-fit, anti-tailoring aesthetic with Africanist roots resonates with the hearts of displaced communities, capturing the essence of the Caribbean diaspora.

In 2017 anthropologist Sophie Bufton, paved the way for a new chapter. Now, The Cloth, in partnership with Exclusive Cottons of the Caribbean, offers a rare flower nurtured in the soils of Barbados. This AW24/25 discover the finest and the rarest cotton blossom in the world: Certified West Indian Sea Island Cotton. It is something of a world wonder, a luxury resource grown exclusively in the unique biome of the Caribbean's sea island archipelago.

Historically, the value of this luxury resource, unique to the Caribbean, has been siphoned off to distant lands. At The Cloth, we champion a value chain rooted in Caribbean creations that return to the very soil that nurtured them. Our trans-seasonal collections are an ode to a future where the Caribbean and its people rightfully reclaim their place as the beneficiaries of the region's natural and luxury resources. We envision a future where Caribbean communities emerge as the true architects of their treasures.
