“The atmosphere was so intense, you could almost feel the presence of those gone before.”

My collection is inspired by photographs and notes I took whilst exploring the abandoned Grabowsee Sanatorium in Berlin. Snapshots of mismatched paint and wallpaper falling away provoked images of the many occupants of the hospital, from the initial TB patients and nurses to the Russian military. The multifaceted and turbulent history of the building allowed me to create a multilayered collection, taking elements from the past and exposing them through the use of transparent fabrics and layering.
