Cecilia Washburn is a Print designer based in London. Her inspiration comes from beautiful and unusual colours found in unexpected, normally organic places. All her prints are originally hand drawn or painted and then manipulated and printed digitally, Having recently garduated from Ravesnbourne Cecilia's graduate collection Spring/Summer 2013 concists of bold colourful animal prints, greenery and floral prints and ink washes. These prints are on striking, garmenst with minimal usage of seams and fastenings to provide a collection that is colourful and beautifully printed yet wearable. Many of the garments have layers with hidden placement prints underneath.

Cecilia was recently selected as a Mittelmoda 2012 from hundreds of international applicants and showed her collection at the Mittelmoda show in Italy in June. Cecilia also has gained experience working at Mirjam Rouden print design studio where she was screen printing, drawing and hand painting directly on to fabric.

Minimalism, Contrast, Discovery Spring/Summer 2013

Cecilia's Graduate collection concists two different concepts that contrast each other. The concept for her prints are her memories of discovering beautiful wildlife as a child on her summer visits to her grandmas lake in Massachusetts US. Growing up in suburban England, it was amazing to discover hummingbirds, snakes, salamanders, bears, woodpeckers, blue jays, wild blueberries, chipmunks and other such things. So her prints are busy and colourful. The concept for Cecilia’s silhouettes is minimalism, discovery and layers. Cecilia has been looking at the way minimalism is used in many modern art movements and the simplicity of bold shapes and curved lines. She has tried to transfer this to her garments using the seams as a way of showing off these bold shapes and minimalizing the normal seams you would find in a garment. Some of the garments have duplicated panels so you can lift pieces up to discover another print underneath. All garments have minimal usage of seams with invisible fastenings. Block colour washes have been used as prints in juxtaposition with the all over prints. Cecilia likes the idea of the garments being a canvas for the prints as well as wearable pieces.
