My name is Casey Wyse, I’m a soon to be Fashion Design
graduate from Birmingham City University. Through my third year I have discovered that I have a particular love for menswear. Originally for my graduate collection my design focus was on womenswear, but throughout this project I have been continually pushing the boundaries with unisex clothing which resulted in it being showcased on men. My final collection primarily features knitwear and pleats with a soft colour palette of creams and lilacs. My portfolio showcases my final graduate collection which is inspired by my nan and our heritage of a working-class background. Alongside this, I was also inspired by lyrics from the band ‘pulp’. I feel I am most inspired when working with subjects such as my heritage as this allows me to have a personal touch and unique connection with my research and designs. I love expressing and telling the story of mine and my family's background.

Latest Collection

My common people

‘’My Common People’’, is inspired by firstly by my heritage focusing on my nan coming from a working-class background and the financial struggles and sacrifices she made for our family. Secondly the lyrics from the song ‘common people’ and the band itself Pulp inspired the project as both me and my nan found a connection with them; after a conversation with her about her experiences in life. These references produced a feminine unisex collection with surface details inspired by the mock interview with my nan and lyrics from the song ‘Common People’ alongside pleats, knitwear and lace.
The mock interview revealed a particular story and quote that heavily inspired the collection, ‘’I remember my favourite expensive dress I saved money for getting burnt with fags at a party, I wasn’t happy’’. This quote inspired the burnt holes within the collection infused with lace and a print coming directly from the quote.
Another quote which inspired the collection, ‘’ I couldn’t afford to go to events such as the Olympics so my way to get close was to scrapbook it!!!’’ This quote highlighted that she created collages and scrapbook pages, in which I then created direct designs from them to keep true to the research and create a direct link to my past and heritage.
