Carmen Ruano is a designer and engineer born in the north of Spain and recently arrived in East London.
Her style is a mixture of classic tailoring, street style and genderless silhouettes using organic textile and creative deconstructive patterns.
Thanks to her background full of references and to her technical skills she has developed her own creative process with and a keen eye for new trends thinking outside the box.
Currently combines her work as design assistant at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi with her new collection development.

DIY

DIY inspiration starts with a very rooted attitude in our society, working hard from Monday to Friday in an office for the weekend to be able to party in an environment full of music and freedom where the individual feels more free and identified.

Music conceptualizes this behavior. Punk is the first musical, sociologic and cultural movement of the working class in which the body and the dress are the battlefield. The entrance of the technology in the homes propitiates the culture DIY in which through appropriations and the customization fanzines, fashion clothes and music are produced.

I have applied the DIY culture to my collection to get cheerful and inspirational clothes to party, to have fun and to create an own and changing identity. To emphasize a festive character I have used details of the disco music of the 70s, a movement that lived with Punk and merged with bands like Blondie.
