My name is Caolán Bergin, I am a third year BA Fashion Design student in the Limerick School of Art and Design, Limerick Institute of Technology, Ireland. Fashion has always been a passion of mine from an early age, I have been studying Design and Fashion for the last four years.

Previously I completed both a specialist Portfolio course in Art and Design, and a further certificate course in Fashion and Design at Abbeyleix Further Education Centre. I received distinctions in both courses. At the outset of the Fashion Certificate Course I entered and was placed top 5 in a National Fashion Design competition for DCU Young Designer of the Year in 2008. This was an invaluable experience as I witnessed first hand the elements involved in design from concept to construction, and then from construction to show production and styling.

After completing these courses I then went on to attend the Limerick School of Art and Design. In the previous two years of college, I have been introduced to modules such as knitwear, pattern cutting and garment construction, all of which link up with my main study of Fashion Design. Designers who influence my work include Gareth Pugh, Alexander McQueen, Haider Ackermann, all of which have very unique and striking designs which work with or constrict the body. I personally love the idea of fashion being a wearable art which makes a statement that stands out from the mundane and repetitiveness that permiates the fashion industry.
