My childhood was surrounded by fabrics, sewing machines, heaps of waste fabric, clothes , samples , books on embroideries and silhouettes- yes! I was raised by a mom who turned her apartments into a small manufacturing unit so that she could manage twin roles of being a mom of two girls and creative director of her label "Blessings”. Designing and creativity was inherently a part of my sister and my DNA.
As I grew and entered middle school, I started to delve more into the process of the genesis of a garment . After I graduated from pearl academy of fashion, I was more aware of the technical part of fashion- the warp/weft, the count and denier, the basics of pattern making and draping, the planning of a collection.
Working as an intern with La Perla men's division in delhi, I learnt the importance of methodical production, the importance of detailing and the work ethics. I started designing collections for various export houses.
The journey of being a mother of two boys changed my priorities and I took a rather passive stance to my work for a decade but in this course of teaching my sons their school curriculum, I was learning about the importance of the environment around us, how we are insensitive about earth, how our activities have largely affected the climate, the flora and the fauna. My creativity was being infused by another level of awareness and that was caring for the planet that we have borrowed from the posterity.
Thus when I decided to resume my career as my sons took off to college in the united states, my aim was to create, but create healthy, uplift Indian craft, Indian weavers and empower women.
