‘The BUNGALOW’, designed exclusively by French designer Mathieu Leguillon, for prominent Mumbai based concept store, Bungalow 8. Mathieu has an impressive sartorial background, having worked as an assistant designer for leading couture houses such as Yves Saint Laurent and Lanvin in Paris. In keeping with the Bungalow 8 spirit, 'The BUNGALOW' is about 'classics' that surpass time and trends. It is about creating clothes that are rooted in India but global in outlook; it’s about a mature and developed expression of indian-ness, not the kitschy and kurti 'made in india' interpretation. It’s about combining assam silks, khadis, paisleys and ikkats to create multilayered clothes with flawless cuts, unusual permutations, complex silhouettes and immaculate detailing. At a time when India has more than three fashion weeks, countless fashion stores and numerous fashion designers, ‘The BUNGALOW’, like Bungalow 8, aspires to stand apart from the herd by doing things on its own, at times unconventional terms to create clothes that can be both simple yet complex, unembellished yet detailed, global yet Indian, reasonable yet quality conscious, couture yet craft. Most importantly, this is a collection for the individualist, as limited editions of fabric form the basis of this collection, with no two garments being identical.
