A unisex lifestyle label, BIGGER BOY was established in 2014. The basis of the designs have a focus on promoting African culture through fashion and are inspired by communication and culture, such as words, phrases and adages. The power of such words will be present through the garments, accessories and stationary items and will aim to promote African heritage and show the power of language. I hope that the designs used will have the ability to bring about laughter, conger memories, incite encouragement and curiosity amongst audiences.
Fundamentally, the name BIGGER BOY provides the originating inspiration for the label. The name is based on an existing brand name that dates back to the 1950s and you can say that it involves quite a controversial word or term. If you change the first letter of the name BIGGER, will have a word or term that is synonymous with race and ethnicity. This name spurred the change to the phrase BIGGER BOY in order to portray something greater and something that is beyond what can be expected. I also wanted to show how powerful words and language can be. By simply changing one letter in a word you can transform its entire meaning. BIGGER BOY will showcase the power of spoken words, taking inspiration from African adages, phrases and culture through graphics, slogan and prints. The BIGGER BOY product range also features the brand motif, which appears on our Classic items, including: sweatshirts, t-shirts and baseball caps.
