BERTHAUS

This project is born from the interest of searching for a personal and identifying aesthetic that comes from the deepest for which I embark on an introspective experience that will make possible the result obtained. The project seeks the playful experience for which history is the fundamental pillar, in this case fo- cusing on the life and psychology of the artist Francisco de Goya y Lucientes. The general theme is the identification of my person with Goya and with all this I seek and generate a current identity through the investigation of the traditional Spanish culture.
The collection is built around four decisive stages in the life of the artist, the arrival to the court, the illness, the disasters of the war and the black paintings, obtaining of them traits of possible personal comparison that finally transfer to the design. For this, it has also been necessary an extensive documentation about the national aesthetics of the time, which have been able to rescue many details of construction, textiles, patterns and aesthetics.
The project is born from a point perhaps more carnal and personal, so I have approached from a very introspective point, with which I wanted to show me publicly as I am, my origins, my culture and my influential ones that I have wanted to do a tribute through an investigation, and establishing them as mentors, and as a point to collect trends.
The color card comes from the final stage. I wanted to rescue and use the color palette that Goya used for the creation of black paintings. Goya is a colorist with four tones exploited in its many possibilities. White, black, yellow ocher and reddish brown. This chromatic range is established from darkness to light gradually with the development of the collection, beginning with the black, expressing the illness of the artist’s soul, with the obligation to adapt to established canons, going through the brown, ocher and its possibilities, until reach the target, which would express freedom in terms of design, ending with death as catharsis.
