Anna Yates-Housley is a womenswear designer based in London with an inventive, mature approach to design. Anna has recently graduated this year from Kingston University with a degree in Fashion Design. Anna’s degree has shaped her innovative, forward thinking design skills and encouraged a new level of maturity through creating garments that reflect individuals’ desire to project a confident, modern identity. Previous to studying at Kingston University, Anna completed a Foundation course in Art and Design at Leeds College of Art and Design, achieving a distinction.

Anna’s philosophy and central approach to design is formed by challenging standard perceptions of everyday objects and visuals. Anna’s organic and tactile interactions with the world greatly influence the ways in which she manipulates original form or meaning into desirable fully functioning garments.

Anna has gained valuable work experience with successful labels such as Jonathan Saunders and Emilio De La Morena, which have enabled her to take risks and pursue fresh ideas with confidence. Anna’s debut collection ‘Claustrophobia’ was selected to show at Graduate Fashion Week 2013 at Earls Court.

Claustrophobia A/W 14

The inspiration behind the collection was based on the anxiety disorder, Claustrophobia. The concept challenges classic views of clothing and replaces these perceptions with new, stimulating yet fully functioning clothes. The collection works in oversized, elongated and multi functional layers building up around the body with a heavy focus on outerwear. The muse for the collection was nineties model Eve Salvail. The collection set about to make a statement of bald been beautiful and powerful creating layered clothing captivating the body.
