My label brings together pieces that are a tribute to the traditional knitting craft that I learned when I was younger and to which I clung without ever wanting to touch a machine. My love for knitting and crochet led me to combine these years of work into this brand aurélie vergne, founded in 2023.

I started knitting with my grandmother when I was a child and I kept practicing from time to time while I was growing up. In 2019, I entered Supmode Fashion School in Bordeaux in order to learn sewing, design and fashion marketing. In 2022, I presented my first collection « New Armed » mixing bright colored knitwear with white cotton canvas. My intention was to highlight knitwear as a multi-faceted craft, made with only needles and leading to modern and innovative aspects.

Shortly after, I came to realize recycling knitted and crocheted pieces is an easy and convenient process, and I decided to undo some archives pieces so I could create new ones and reuse the same material. This allowed me to create the first collection of my label Aurélie vergne called « Le Chapitre Neuf » in 2023.

My inspirations come from my daily life and obsessions such as video games, space, queer art and literature or electro music. I want to implant these countercultures in the world of fashion and translate them into my own language, using exclusively pieces made with my needles and crochets.

Craftmanship, inclusivity, quality and innovation are values I will carry and explore throughout my label.

Le Chapitre Neuf

“Le Chapitre Neuf” comes from the video game Céleste. The chapter nine is an expansion of the game, an ultimate level whose difficulty is very high. When you are at chapter nine, it is to prove something to yourself, to feel proud of having reached such heights.

This first collection was my chapter nine. First there were years of learning, then a struggle with myself to climb the mountain. Throughout its creation I was accompanied by video games which hypnotized me with their worlds, their maps, their characters. Each look pays homage to these iconic games, which are still too considered counterculture compared to other arts.

I like to think of knit as intertwined knots that only the knitter can do and undo in order to create a complex structure that involves volume, openwork, tension and various techniques of stitches. The knitter is the founder of the fabric and creates a whole story around its texture and aspect.

The process of knitting and crochet is so very similar to embodying a character in a video game: you start your game with very few capacities and powers, but you only get stronger while following your quest. As the storyline progresses, you become the character, your hands and fingers helps it move, fight and explore.

In each look you will find a piece of that state of mind: getting new techniques throughout stitches, exploring emotions of my characters throughout the choice of fabric and its volume. I like playing with loops because they remind me of my obsessions, just like some of my characters from video games who are determined to end their quest.
