Appulu

Manali has been working religiously in fashion for 16 years. She graduated from Hong Kong Design Institute in 1992; 30 years back from now majoring in jewellery design. After starting her brand ‘Nayaab’, she explored another side of her interest and delved into clothing under the name ‘Emerald Queen’. A keen interest in spirituality led her to study Buddhist and Jain Philosophy in 2016-17 from Mumbai University, Maharashtra.
A curious mind can never stop so she went to study fashion this time. She completed her post graduation (2017-2019) from Pearl Academy of Fashion. The journey of sustainable fashion started from college. She experimented on natural dyes and techniques for 2 years and rigorously followed this practice alongside her new label ‘Three Monkeys’ inspired and influenced by Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of Ahimsa. The brand name Appulu also has an interesting story behind the word that it was her son who used to say ‘Appulu’ means I love you to show love to his mamma. She remembers those times which have nostalgia and immense love and affection attached to this mother-son duo. So when she became grandmother and didn’t find many options for her granddaughter (who is her muse now), as when she started stitching for her and soon it inspired her to start the label for little ones. Appulu was born in the year 2022 and nurtured tremendously till now.
