Collection “BITE THIS ...” critically considers tendencies of fashion and fashion industry in the near future and questions responsibilities of hyper-consumerism, fast fashion and role of textile production in the pollution of the environment. There is a general feeling that Fashion, as a phenomenon, has lost its vital essence, and that the need to protect our bodies from the external effects, through evolution and throughout decades of searching for universal style expression and AESTHETICS of dressing up, is lost somewhere, torn between fashion brands, textile conglomerates and insta-medias. Collateral damage caused by ENDEAVOR to put one form of applied arts into function of capital is endangering our home planet, the condition is worsening with every passing second, while we sip our morning coffee and scroll down the ads for new “must haves” attacking our “almighty” Instagram.
“Authorized” seasonal fashion collections, that hopeless repetition of already seen, sometimes barely visibly upgraded with fresh, this centuries perception of an individual, later to be copied and mass produced, sometimes for the price of human lives, but always and daily for the price of our ecosystem, it has lost its meaning and to say the least, it is boring. Collection „BITE THIS...“ puts an accent on the symbolism of that crazed repetition of fashion styles in its literal expression. Author represents a READY-MADE experiment created with carefully chosen old textile products, recreated into new ones with new function, new name, and new form. In this sense, 70% of the collection is UP-CYCLED in order to create new high quality garment, with added value and fresh AESTHETICS. Collection was made with home textile - curtains, table cloths, drapes and upholstery fabrics ; dresses from African Masai tribe, JAPANESE kimonos and Berlin clubbers clothes from flea market Cassiopeia. It is deconstructed, dry cleaned from dust and past, ornate with jewelry from 19th and 20th century, collected in the past years on different travels. HYBRIDIZED BLEND OF MIXED FUSION is a big patchwork puzzle assembled to live another life span. Style represents combination of many significant decades and epochs, mix of all primary COLORS, their valers and complementaries, fusion of new age prints and antique embroidery, blend of organic and geometric forms and silhouettes, cosmopolitan mix of contemporary and ancient.
Combined research of this collection strives to awaken lazy hyper consumerist, and careless capitalistic conscience. Sociologically and ecologically engaged, sarcastic and on the verge of witty, „BITE THIS...“ tells a sad and above all serious story about the disappearance of authentic, thievery of personal and intimate, moving to landfills in the blink of an eye, eye hungry for new, blind for the consequences, negligent for responsibility.
