ALICE MUNTEANU

I am a Romanian-born, London based Textile/Print Designer at the beginning of what I hope will be a long and significant career. My vision is to combine classical Romanian textiles with contemporary design techniques and keep my grandmothers traditional works alive. This way of working is very particular to me and defines me not only as an artist but also as an individual. My greatest fear is that craftsmanship of my ancestors will be forgotten, at the same time I don’t want to create another pastiche of a Romanian wall hanging. The traditional techniques are purely my starting point, the possibilities they open up to me are endless. Creating something new out of the old is what I will always strive to achieve.
