The ‘Insomnia’ collection is a hand-made poem. it tells a story a withered attempt to fall asleep. the poem consists of 5 chapters transforming into 5 outfits. The looks are approached as paintings, where cut out apple shapes are treated as paint, layering a garment. The shades of blue night sky satin intertwine with bleach black cotton and translucent shades of cerulean organza. Bitten apple cores transform into jewellery.
Chapter One : The Ghost I hear my chest ringing. Heart palpitating. Every bone is trembling with shivers. A ghost? A dream? An illusion? Translucent cut out organza apple shapes transform into a spirit dress.
Chapter Two : The Apple Hearts.
A remedy. An apple. A holy fruit of Eden garden. Perhaps, a sacred cure? Perhaps, the night will come to end? Perhaps, once and for all?
I eat an apple in hope to fall asleep. The moon is resting on the stubs of bitten apple hearts. The scraps, repeated fragments of the daunting nights. Dipped in resin, they become my jewels.
Chapter Three: The Canvas A cotton canvas. Pure as skin. Bare as Madonna.
Chapter Four : The Painting Paranoid, I open a bag of soft paint tubes. Expressive colour strokes on canvas. Translucent shades of blue, mauve and gold collapse. Cut out apple shapes are bleached and gathered in distress, resembling brush strokes. They form a painting of a flower on a dress. A nature-morte of apples and anxiety. A flick of paint, a flick of desperation. Unfinished canvas.
Chapter Five : The Night Heartbeat. I ripped my curtain in strips. They surround my body in distress. Twisted, they suffocate my skin.
