6cm x 4cm: the dimensions of the label. Cut from the same fabric as the garment, the label is fused onto the inside of each piece of clothing. While clothing reflects the movements of human culture it also helps to determine its direction. How now do we identify with a tribe differently to when our tribe was determined by proximity? We find that we can be members of the same tribe without having met, without living in the same continent or even speaking the same language. But we also find that we can as easily be without a tribe, without any group with which to identify. We must grow comfortable with this diaspora, there is no reason that things should be the way that they are: there is no promised land.
