Tosca Soraya Otten graduated in 2007 at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI). After her studies she worked as a designer in Shanghai, South- and North America. In 2012 she achieved her masters degree in fashion design at the Parisian Institut Français de la Mode. An internship at Cacharel followed and between 2014 and 2016 she was part of the Ilja Visser team, being the right hand of the conceptual art director with whom she created the couture collections for ILJA. In 2016 the time was right to start her own adventure and TOS gallery was born, a label that connects arts and fashion with a strong believe in ‘Stories, not seasons’. The CONSCIOUS label started with painting unique silk scarves at the Amsterdam-based studio in 2016, yet in 2017 those artworks were transformed into woven fabrics with a weaver in Lyon and Paris. From these fabrics, a first demi-couture collection was crafted: The Phoenix Series. In 2018 the label CREATED its first couture collection: ENSEMBLE, adding broderie d'art, paintings and textile art. The collection was presented in exhibition form to give the audience more than products, a story and an experience. IN 2019 the brand created another demi couture collection; haute nature. the collection was presented at a fine arts dealer in amsterdam city center, where the runway models where wearing flowers as accessories on their hair, arms, legs and feet. 2019 was also the year for the label's first art exhibition, 'fire, the separation between the material and the spirit', to be found at the dutch design hotel artemis in amsterdam. the brand started creating textile art and embroidery art more frequently, both framed as on showpieces and projects. a capsule collection of hand embroidered earrings was created, in the spirit of the exhibition; flamme. the year ended with a collaboration with established luxury designer hester van eeghen, with collection 'bloodmoon'. the collection of leather bags and gloves carries enchanting beadwork in the shape of moons, created by tos gallery. the items are all hand made, crafted to order, and exclusively found in the hester van eeghen select store, nieuwe spiegelstraat 32 in amsterdam.
