For Vinita Michael's Spring Summer 2015 collection, she takes inspiration from the oriental land of Japan. The adornments and silhouettes of a traditional Maiko serve as the template for the collection. The forms are inspired by the headpiece, obi knots, hand-fans, paper umbrellas and other utility goods found at Maiko's Okiya. However, the treatment in terms of design language and material used is contemporary - inspired by the souvenirs collected by today's traveler. Unconventional yet pleasant - Surprising yet inspiring.
