Graduate Collection

Coming from a Japanese heritage, Sophie Baldwin took influence from the Japan Tsunami and Earthquake in 2011 for her graduate collection. From this, she took key elements from the tsunami such as the motions of waves. To embody this movement she used free machine embroidery, which created new textures and patterns within the garment pieces. The silhouettes within her garments also pointed to her theme of the tsunami, she hinted at the destruction it caused through layering garments and incorporating panels. These key elements project a bold statement but keep with her minimal aesthetic.
