Called Ocumare after one of Venezuela’s most botanically rich regions, Sordo’s newest creations are reminiscent of the beach landscapes of her childhood. For the Ocumare earrings and brooch, for instance, she has recreated the spectacular way the mountainous coastline drops into the sea. In the clash of texturized silver and smooth gold one can sense the way the Caribbean Sea comes into the beach with all its force and then slowly recedes, leaving behind it foam, salt and constantly changing textures in the sand.
