For this collection, I re-imagined the character of Miss Havisham from Great Expectations, not as the fictional trope of the sad, jilted spinster, but as a joyful older woman who has retired to Florida and opened her home as a haven for another fictional character trope, the manic pixie dream girl. The inhabitants of Miss Havisham's home have aged out of the male fantasy of the manic pixie dream girl and into yet another misogynistic trope, that of the “difficult woman”.
