Formed in London in 2013 Eskay W is like a shiny new penny on the fashion scene – covetable and full of promise. The designer – SK Wong – has trained with the likes of Donna Karan and Jasmine di Milo and completed a stint at the internationally renowned London College of Fashion, before setting up the label Eskay W.

These are designed for ‘every woman,’ their appeal is broad and the motivation is to produce garments that can be worn by the woman every day, rather than garments that the woman must alter her life to wear. Whilst practicality is the underlying appeal this does not mean that style or uniqueness have been sacrificed. The label will design clothes to be worn that are also made to bring a feeling of pride, that sense of being dressed uniquely in a way that enables the wearer to say ‘this is who I am.’

This thematic design code is achieved through a combination of broad vision and minute attention to detail. Under the microscope-accurate craftsmanship is employed to ensure that looks are beautifully finished, hand tailoring for timelessness, and careful selection of fabrics that not only meet the demands of a working wardrobe but are innovative and stylish too. The broader vision is an understanding that truly covetable fashion must offer something more – that elusive inspiration that results in pieces that are a genuine joy to wear.

Whilst the business is beginnings by producing ready to wear, sold wholesale and through some internet sites, the vision is global. ‘Empire’ is the word and the label has already started putting down the building blocks. It is clear that this will never cause the quality to be sacrificed – in fact, it is the attention to detail that will no doubt be the signature look of this label in a decade – nothing is ever missed. Currently, garments are produced personally to ensure the uniform quality and craftsmanship that is so very important to this new fashion name.

There will be couture in the future but for now the commitment is to producing garments for those who don’t have five figures to spend on a dress. And this is what defines the label – that desire to bring a touch of couture magic to every day lines so that no outfit ever feels particularly ‘every day.’ This is why many of the designs have hidden depths – features that only the wearer knows about, or unexpected movements in the fabric. With its love for the quality and lines of a vintage piece and commitment to a contemporary finish, Eskay W has nailed that subtle blend of an appreciation of all that the past can provide whilst still very much having an eye on the future.
