Knitting, by its very nature, is constantly changing: it is governed by the thread, the foundation that can always be interwoven and untangled in so many ways, giving rise to countless shapes and forms. So, too, is existence. The four states of matter sustain the world and according to them we evolve and mutate, as Empedocles argued in 400 BCE. Nothing is created, nothing is destroyed, and everything is transformed, in the name of that which is unchanging: the states of matter are as the states of knitwear.
